An emergency response was required to clean and dispose of a powder spillage in a shipping container to enable the continuation of unloading operations.
Challenge:
The spillage created an immediate disruption, preventing the customer’s operatives from proceeding with unloading tasks. Due to the nature of the incident, specialised handling, cleaning, and disposal procedures were necessary to ensure safety and compliance with waste regulations.
Solution:
Initial Assessment:
Our office team quickly evaluated the situation by reviewing images of the spillage and obtaining the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the material involved.
This ensured the industrial team was equipped with the necessary tools, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and appropriate disposal materials before dispatch.
On-Site Execution:
Upon arrival, our team determined that the spilled powder was contaminated after coming into contact with the container floor and was deemed unfit for use.
The contents from the damaged bag were carefully transferred into UN approved clip-top drums to securely contain the waste.
- The drums were then palletised and transported to a fully licensed waste disposal facility for safe disposal.
Area Cleanup:
The remaining powder remnants were cleaned thoroughly, ensuring no traces were left.
These remnants were also secured in UN approved drums and disposed of alongside the main waste material.
Outcome:
The shipping container was restored to a clean and clear state, ready for immediate use.
The service was executed safely and efficiently, minimising downtime for the customer’s operations.
